Raising Funds for Camp Helen Keller

This year, the funds we raise from the Run/Walk will go towards Camp Helen Keller, a free 5-week summer program for children ages 4 to 15 who are blind or have low vision from Nassau, Suffolk, and Queens. Helen Keller Services provides this camp with free tuition and door-to-door transportation. Camp Helen Keller offers a wide range of activities including accessible sports, science and technology classes, arts and crafts, games, music and dance, and community outings. The program focuses on creating opportunities for socialization and peer mentoring, enriching the lives of participating children through engaging and inclusive experiences.

We bring an exciting, action packed program at Camp Helen Keller. We bolster confidence and unleash the talents and aspirations of the campers. CHK fosters an inclusive environment for children who are blind or have vision loss. We find solutions to meet everyone’s unique accessibility needs that are not one-size-fits-all.

The camp counselors are specially trained to adapt recreation and social activities to ensure each child’s experience is accessible. Camp memories are created along with lifetime friendships. The greatest part of it all is that campers across all ages discover their strengths and abilities! The campers’ self-efficacy grows, “I Can Do It” attitudes are strengthened, and engagement in sports and other recreation activities bolsters confidence and self-esteem.

With your support and sponsorship, HKS will continue to offer this free camp to 50 amazing campers.
