Your rehabilitation counselor will work with you to create a customized training program. He or she will assist you in coordinating with your “home team” — including your sponsoring state agency, your HKNC regional representative and your family. In short, your rehabilitation counselor will work collaboratively with you so that you can access all the resources and support services you need to succeed on campus and beyond.
Your rehabilitation counselor can:
- Offer feedback about your goals and help you to identify the skills you need to achieve them.
- Brainstorm with you to generate new ideas and find ways to overcome obstacles.
- Provide counseling about vocational options and personal matters.
- Facilitate communication between you, your job coach, DeafBlind Employment Specialist (DBES) and the rest of the HKNC team.
- Support you to co-facilitate your employment planning meetings with your vocational rehabilitation counselor.
- Create opportunities for your family members to learn how to support you when you return home.
- Connect you with resources and support services.
- Support you to plan your transition home with your home team, regional representative, DBES and HKNC instructional team.
- Assist you with Social Security benefits as needed.
