From the day that I was introduced to Helen Keller Services for the Blind I felt really good about it. The workers were always professional, listened to me and my ideas, advocated for me, and made me feel like they were a part of my journey. I came into HKSB as a Registered Nurse and I was unable to continue to do what I love because of my vision and health. I have done trainings, learned about different tools and tapped into new abilities that didn’t know I had prior to coming to Helen Keller. I now have the confidence, contacts and liaisons to go forward in a positive track. Because of the services and support of HKSB I have been able to take my existing skillset and move to a position that is both familiar and well suited for me. I am back in a facility working with residents and doing what I love to do in a different capacity. My journey does not end here; and I continue to pursue new goals with the help of my Employment Specialist, Commission Counselor, and Low Vision doctor. Without Helen Keller I would not know how to how to navigate and have access to the tools that I never knew existed. Helen Keller has changed my life in a short amount of time!
