Our Commitment to Digital Accessibility

Helen Keller Services is committed to providing an accessible website that is usable and easy to navigate. We strive to create an accessible experience for everyone, including people with disabilities, as we care about creating inclusive digital experiences without barriers.

How we Achieve Accessibility

  • We adhere to level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) and level AAA when possible. The WCAG is written by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). When adhering to the WCAG, we follow strict guidelines to ensure our website is perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust to all people.
  • We ensure our website is compatible with assistive technology such as screen readers, braille displays, magnifiers and speech recognition software.
  • As we continue to update the website, we work with an accessibility specialist to ensure forms are easy to fill out for those who use assistive technology, webpages are easy to navigate, and images/non-text elements are accessible.
  • People who are native assistive technology users, such as people who are blind, test our website for any issues they come across, and we create solutions to those issues.
  • We add alternative text to our images and non-text elements so people using assistive technology can have a better understanding of what is on our web pages.
  • We add captions to videos and create video transcripts to ensure people who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or hard of hearing can access the information on videos.
  • We ensure there is adequate color contrast on our website to allow people with low vision to access information easily.

Exceptions / Third-Party Websites

While we strive to make our website as user-friendly as possible, our website contains links to third-party sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok Moodle and ADP that we do not have control over in regards to best accessibility practices. If you’d like to review the accessibility statements and standards of some of the third-party sites we use, please review them here:
