Helen Keller Services’ Children’s Learning Center is a premier, full-day special education preschool for children ages 3-5 with visual impairment, autism spectrum disorder, and other medical conditions or developmental delays. We are currently located at 180 Livingston Street in Downtown Brooklyn in a brand new school.
Our school currently consist of four classrooms that are large and well furnished with lots of adaptive toys and equipment to help meet each child’s IEP goals. All of our classrooms have 8 students, 1 teacher and 2 assistant teachers. We follow the New York City Department of Education academic calendar plus a 6 week summer session. The teaching staff implements the New York City Preschool Curriculum using adaptive lesson plans with learning materials. The school has an indoor gym designed to offer multisensory input and promote exploration and learning on the part of the child. We have variety of equipment within our gym that addresses the gross motor and social needs of our students.
Our caring and highly qualified staff includes Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapists, an Orientation and Mobility Instructor, and a full time Registered Nurse and Social Worker. Additionally, we have a partnership with the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and the Mark Morris Dance Group that run our weekly music and dance programs.
At The Children’s Learning Center we believe in an “open door policy.” Where parents are welcome to join the school family to learn and collaborate with all service providers in efforts to help the students achieve their personal and educational goals. This is an exciting time to be part of our school. We currently have seats open for September. Please call or email our Intake Coordinator or Principal for more information regarding enrollment to our program. [End of Transcript]
