MAINTENANCE MECHANIC – PLANT OPERATIONS. FT 35 hours per week. High School diploma required. Some technical school preferred. Minimum of three years experience doing progressively more complex work in the maintenance field, particularly auto mechanics. Must be able to read and work from blueprints and drawings. Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of troubleshooting methods and procedures. Must possess skills in the following areas and/or trades: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, troubleshooting, strong mechanical skills, general maintenance and painting. The Maintenance Mechanic performs maintenance duties for the Helen Keller National Center particularly all vehicle maintenance for fleet including Inspecting vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately, inspecting vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade, conducting routine maintenance work aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity, inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately. . Determines by regular inspections the maintenance and repair work necessary to maintain the structure, furnishings and systems. Plans sequence of repairs and maintenance following accepted trade practices. Advises supervisor of any unsafe or hazardous conditions. Performs duties necessary to install, maintain, repair, build and replace partitions, studs, walls, ceilings, windows, doors, door closures and locks, floors, shelves, wall coverings, dividers, furniture, desks, bookcases, tables, credenzas and wall hangings. Must have a working knowledge of building materials consisting of, but not limited to: wood, glass, plastics, metal, sheetrock, plaster, ceramic tiles, acoustical tile, wall coverings, floor coverings, plastic laminates and cement. Performs minor electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs, switches, receptacles and fuses. Performs duties necessary to install, maintain, repair and replace plumbing fixtures and accessories, including but not limited to sinks, toilets, showers, faucets, shower mixers, valves, missing valves, pressure relief valves, pressure reducing valves, water lines and drains.
