VIRTUAL Summer Youth Programs 2020

HKNC Summer 2020 Youth Programs are going VIRTUAL

A man is sitting at a desk and is communicating with a person on a computer screen. In a time when distance learning ensures your safety, HKNC has adapted our New York programs to online so that you may still have the opportunity to learn from other deaf-blind individuals and our experienced professionals.

Prior to the beginning of the program, HKNC staff will assess technology available to the participant to determine the best instruction modality that would insure full access to information and instruction.  Instruction may be provided by telephone; iPhone; iPad, e-mail; computer; videophone; FaceTime; Zoom meetings and/or Google Classroom.

Pre-Employment Services for Transition Age

HKNC’s SYVP offers Pre- Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS), established through Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and prepares transition-age youth for competitive and integrated employment during a time when distance learning ensures the safety of our consumers.

The six-week Virtual SYVP will offer opportunities to gain knowledge and experience in the following areas: Vocational Exploration, Self-Determination, Advocacy, Communication Methods, Worksite Orientation & Mobility, Assistive Aids & Devices, and Interviewing & Employment Skills. Participants will gain self-awareness through the process of gathering information about their interests, abilities, and values. They will explore the “world of work” through the distribution of information of a variety of career options and associated criteria. As a result of their discoveries through self-awareness and “world of work”, participants will narrow potential career options supported by informed decision-making.

Session I: June 8, 2020 – July 17, 2020
