Hello. My name is Maricar. I am deaf-blind and I work at the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults, also known as HKNC.

One of our biggest annual fundraisers here at the center is Helens Run/Walk. This is a 5K or 3.1 mile race

Image of a past run/walk: People are walking along the street holding balloons and wearing race numbers pinned to their shirts.

This year the run/walk will be taking place on Sunday, April 26th, starting at 9:30 in the morning.

I’m super excited and will be running with my guide dog Cliff.

And here’s an image of Maricar and her guide dog posing for a picture.

I hope you will be able to join us and support this great cause.

The money we raise from this event will be put towards a very worthy cause which is our Support Service Provider or SSP Program.  An SSP is a specially trained individual who empowers a deaf-blind person by providing visual and environmental information, human guide and communication facilitation. This allows the deaf-blind individual to make their own informed decisions and fully participate in their lives and their community.

Here’s an image of a deaf-blind man and his SSP participating in a past run/walk.
