Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor

Roberto Cabrera is a Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for Deaf, DeafBlind, Deaf-Disabled, Late-Deafened and Hard of Hearing (DDBDDLDHH). In the evening hours Roberto is teaching American Sign Language at local community colleges. Besides working in the big city in the west—Los Angeles, Roberto is one of the California Association of the Deaf’s Employment Taskforce Committee members and is a board member of California Manos del Corazon.

During his off hours, Roberto Cabrera is active in leading discussions on a wide range of mental health and social psychology topics within the DDBDDLDHH community. As an active community member, Roberto has embraced his intersectional identities —Second Generation DeafBlind, Dominican and Queer. Roberto received his Master’s degree in Counseling with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Fullerton and his Bachelor’s degree in Human Service with an emphasis on Mental Health from California State University, Fullerton. As an active person, Roberto loves chatting with people and loves learning new technology to make life easier.

Director, Global Diversity & Inclusion, Sodexo

         Gloria Puentes is Director, Global Diversity & Inclusion for Sodexo, the leading provider of Quality of Life Services with 470,000 employees in 67 countries serving 100 million consumers served daily.

A passionate and committed practitioner of diversity and inclusion, Gloria strives to demonstrate how D&I can make a difference in workforce engagement and grow revenue. Gloria works with national strategic partners to bring programs that focus on enhancing quality of life to diverse communities. Globally, Gloria co-leads the dimension of Cultures & Origins which focuses on Indigenous communities, Refugees and Ethnicity.

Gloria brings to Sodexo a well-rounded background that includes sales and marketing, organizational change, external relations and program management, working for such companies as Hewlett Packard and IBM. She was also an entrepreneur leading an event management agency that helped small to mid-sized tech companies gain the highest rate of return on their investment as they leveraged conferences and user groups.

Gloria is an alumnus of San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master’s of Science in Leadership from Duquesne University.

Senior Consultant, CVS Health Workforce Initiatives Team

Joana Lisboa currently serves as a Senior Consultant for CVS Health’s Workforce Initiatives team, managing workforce development programming and community partnerships on behalf of the enterprise within the 5 boroughs of New York City and Long Island. She also has oversight of the NYC Workforce Innovation and Talent Center located in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, one of the four fully operational store and pharmacy training locations support the development of colleagues and partnering community agencies.

In her current role, Joana partners with community-based organizations, educational institutions and more to provide youth, mature workers, individuals with disabilities, veterans and other, diverse talent access to meaningful employment opportunities. Joana joined the CVS Health team in 2006 as a Store Associate in Brooklyn, NY. Since then, Joana has been in roles such as Pharmacy Technician, Operations Supervisor, Field Colleague Trainer and her first role within Workforce Initiatives in 2014 as a Regional Learning Center Coordinator.

Joana Lisboa resides in Brooklyn, NY with her four-year-old daughter Anabella.

Kathy West-Evans – Q&A Facilitator Photograph of Kathy West-Evans

Director of Business Relations, CSAVR/NET

Kathy West-Evans is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) who is fluent in American Sign Language. She has her MA in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science. Kathy started in the field of rehabilitation in 1978. She worked in a community agency, for the Washington State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Region X office of the Rehabilitation Services Administration and now leads the National Employment Team (NET) at CSAVR (Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation). The NET is a cross state team of VR business specialists working through a dual customer approach to develop strategies with business to employ and retain the talents of individuals with disabilities across the company or organization.  

Kathy is a member and past Chair of the Veterans Advisory Council on Rehabilitation and a former Commissioner on the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification. She has co-authored articles and delivered several presentations focused on the employment of people with disabilities.
