Rehabilitation Services
We work individually and in groups with people who are blind, helping them to address the challenges that blindness presents. This allows them to be better prepared to fulfill their rehabilitation goals and to live a more meaningful and independent life.
We provide basic rehabilitation training each year to hundreds of clients in the New York metropolitan area who are blind. Most of the training is done one-on-one, often in the client’s home or workplace.
Orientation & Mobility Training
HKSB Orientation & Mobility Training begins with an assessment of a client’s needs. Mobility instructors then teach clients skills for traveling independently and safely—including how to rely on other senses to orient to the environment, cane techniques, and the use of public transportation.
Adapted Daily Living Skills
Our Adapted Daily Living Skills program starts with an assessment. The rehabilitation instructor then trains the client in skills such as cooking, cleaning, personal care, communications, and home management.
