Congratulations to the Class of 2012!
June 27, 2012, New York —It was a joyous and proud day for parents, caregivers, staff, and teachers as they celebrated the graduation of eleven youngsters from Helen Keller Services for the Blind’s Children’s Learning Center (CLC). The event was held June 22 at One Metrotech Center in Brooklyn thanks to National Grid, who generously donated the use of their auditorium.
HKSB’s President & CEO Thomas J. Edwards and Garth White, CLC Principal, delivered words of encouragement to the adults present, thanking them for their partnership over the years and asking them to continue to be strong advocates for their children.
Musical performances led by music teacher Michel Gentile included the songs “Happiness Runs, Donovan” and “I Know, E Barringer”. The children also made their debut dance performance under the tutelage of Mireille Obert and musician Dave Sharma from the Mark Morris Dance Group.
The CLC’s social worker Antoinette Richards presented the 2012 Parent Award to Mr. and Mrs. George (parents of graduate Ryan George) and the 2012 Grandparent Award to Mr. Marv Sinclair (grandparent of graduate Leigha Sinclair). All three were recognized for being outstanding advocates.
The 2012 graduates were: Nestor Alfonso, Andy Chen, Nicholas Garrison, Ryan George, Dontae Hollis, Seven Martin, Lawrence Peryer, Leigha Sinclair, Amari Taylor, Saphonia Woods, and Shawoun Young.
