It is with great sadness that we note the passing away on December 10, 2012 of HKSB former Executive Director John P. Lynch.

From 1988 until his retirement in 2010, John served HKSB as Executive Director, overseeing and managing all education and rehabilitation programs for adults and children who are blind or visually impaired. Prior to this, Lynch served as Assistant Director and Rehabilitation Services Director, coordinating all aspects of vocational rehabilitation services. While at HKSB, he also developed community and center-based rehabilitation services and provided orientation and mobility instruction.

Earlier in his career, Lynch was a rehabilitation teacher for Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind; Director of the Integrated Strategies Program and a rehabilitation consultant for Helen Keller International, Inc.; an orientation and mobility specialist for the Virginia Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired; a house parent for the Perkins School for the Blind; and a Peace Corps volunteer at the National Institute for the Blind in Bogotá, Columbia.

Lynch received a Master of Business Administration from Long Island University, CW Post Campus; a Master of Education from Boston College; a diploma in Social Development from Coady International Institute (Canada); and a Bachelor of Arts from Mount St. Mary’s College. He was the beloved husband of Liliana and devoted father of John Brian, Joseph and Martin. Our hearts and prayers go out to his loved ones.
