Activities Day at Camp Helen Keller
July 22, 2010, New York —On Thursday, July 22nd, Order Sons of Italy, through its Gift of Sight Program, hosted an action-packed Activities Day at Camp Helen Keller on the grounds of Farmingdale State College.
Pool games, sponge races, and Simon Sez were just some of the activities that had the children smiling and laughing all day long. In addition to tons of pizza and Italian ices, all of the participants received t-shirts commemorating the day. An interesting note was that we had on hand a Gift of Sight college scholarship winner from 2006—Nicole Gagliardi, who happens to be one of our counselors! Also on hand was Fabrice, a camper we are sponsoring. Fabrice is a 13-year old camper whose home was destroyed by the earthquake in Haiti earlier in the year. Fabrice’s parents sent him to live with an aunt in Elmont in the hopes that he would get the medical treatment he needed. Fabrice had one of the widest grins of all.
