Adaptive Technology Instructor—Per Diem Position

Summary: Responsible for the execution of HKSB’s Mission, goals and objectives through the demonstration and instruction of computer hardware and software systems to visually impaired consumers in the HKSB Brooklyn, Hempstead and Huntington Assistive Technology Centers. Assist outside personnel in adapting their computer systems to accommodate HKSB consumers. Maintain, update and repair department computers and peripherals. Maintain positive communication with clients, outside employers, CBVH staff, vendors and HKSB employees.

Proficient in PC Windows and Apple IOS based operating systems, hardware and adaptive software, screen-reading software, display magnification software, Braille Display Systems/Refreshable Braille, Braille Printers,

Note-takers, scanner/OCR systems. Working knowledge of handheld devices and applicable applications to Apple products.

Education and/or Experience: A minimum of an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in the computer field or 2 years related experience.

Direct Support Community Habilitation Staff, OPWDD Services, Hempstead, LI—Per Diem Position

Summary: Part time position includes evenings and weekends. We are seeking to hire 6 Direct Support Professionals to provide services to blind, developmentally disabled consumers in their homes and in their home communities. Staff work one-on- one with the consumer on activities as outlined in their Community Habilitation Plan and in keeping with the consumer’s needs and interests. Activities include daily living skills, cooking skills, homemaking, recreation and community integration. Staff person is responsible for developing the plan, maintaining contemporaneous notes, data collection and participation at team meetings.

Education and/or Experience: Training in all OPWDD mandated areas will be provided. AMAP and SCIP-R training will be required if consumer need dictates. Minimum high school diploma or equivalency required. Experience working with the blind and/or developmentally disabled and knowledge of OPWDD regulations preferred. Services provided in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Valid NYS driver’s license preferred.

Home-based (Per Diem) Early Intervention Teacher of the Visually Impaired, Children’s Learning Center, Brooklyn

Summary: Home-based Teacher of the Visually Impaired is needed for Early Intervention / Home-based program in Brooklyn for children who are blind or visually impaired. The student may also have multiple impairments. This position is paid hourly, per diem in which the teacher goes into the family’s home and works with the child in half hour sessions. The teacher is responsible for all aspects of teaching the child, who is 9 months to 3 years of age. The teacher collaborates with parents and members of each child’s therapy team to discuss progress regarding IFSP outcomes. Early Intervention paperwork, such as session notes and progress notes are required.
